This is a fun topic, albeit controversial for some. An emperor of a micronation needed help with more exposure in YouTube, so we discussed some ways to reach the right audience. Many people interested in the topic are looking to "start" a micronation; but the reality is that most people willing to take action are better off joining an existing one first to learn more about the daily actions required plus upgrade one's thought processes before starting one.

I gave him some tips on creating a YouTube playlist and using existing videos. We then decided to optimize the playlist for the "how to start" keyword, knowing that the videos inside it may convince people to learn more about his existing micronation. At that point, some people may decide to join his entity rather than create another new - and likely to fail quickly - aspiring territory.

This has paid off as the playlist itself, not just the videos, now has received over 30,000 visitors. This means that viewers entered the playlist and then watched one (or more) video in its entirety.

The rest of the conversation was enjoyable as it covered his reasons for starting a micronation, how it works with the regular country surrounding the land, expansion into new territories, creating his own flag-stamped hard currency (silver or copper), items for trade, generation of power from solar & wind, creating identity for those who one day may become citizens, and more. While a tough topic for some to discuss, the history of micronations within the past 100 years was more extensive than I realized. It has unique stories, heroes and villains, opens up the topic of sovereignty, and much more.
