1836 is a significant year in Texas history with several events, including the events which took place at Goliad, TX. In 2017 we worked together to make the first 360 degree video for the Texas Historical Commission with little-known facts built into the content. This also was one of the first 360 degree videos which was animated, rather than real-life footage (such as a Go Pro camera), The image is the thumbnail on YouTube of the actual video found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_5r6HCW_DE
This was an intense and fun project as it required several meetings, planning wording, press releases to hype photos tied to Texas history which were to be unveiled in the video, getting educators on board with 360 degree videos (since this topic is part of mandatory Texas history class for high school students in the state), and explaining how YouTube's algorithm worked at the time. Interestingly, at the time of adding this memory to Metablox, the YouTube video is still on page 1 of Google & other search engines for some of the most commonly-entered search queries pertaining to this portion of Texas history.
This snippet is from the video's description on the THC's official YouTube channel:
This 360-degree video is the full film by the Texas Historical Commission (THC) about the Goliad Massacre, which took place in March 1836. It is an important, yet often-overlooked, moment in the pursuit of Texas independence. This video is in 360-degree format, which permits you to move your mouse while holding down the button to rotate the view in 360 degrees. Mobile device users will be able to move their devices and gain different views. This film features new information and video footage of artifacts, the location of Col. James W. Fannin's death, and details of the Battle of Coleto Creek. For the first time, film footage of one of three massacre sites has been publicly available (the actual Coleto Creek battleground). 360-degree video filmed within and around the Presidio La Bahía and Fannin Battleground State Historic Site is intended to help viewers gain a deeper understanding of the tragic story that played an important role in the 1836 march toward Texas independence. Footage of the artifacts included in this film include: Fannin's epaulettes historic lance heads Fannin's watch The film also includes several "Did You Know?" facts about the historical events.
Some credits for the video (film) include from the description:
