When Toyota first embarked on their journey to build cars, they spent an enormous amount of time perfecting steel. They meticulously tested how to bend it, understanding the properties of iron and how to forge it properly. Even though the automotive industry was already well-established in Europe and America, creating cars in Japan required rethinking many aspects from scratch. It wasn’t just about the steel; the design of engines and car bodies had to appeal to Japanese tastes. It was a rugged and challenging path.
