Biography | Meghan Markle — Married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle

On 19 May 2018 Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The ceremony began at midday. The chapel stands in the Lower Ward of the castle at approximately 51.4836 N, 0.6069 W. It is a royal peculiar and the chapel of the Order of the Garter. The building dates from the late fifteenth century in the Perpendicular Gothic style. Previous royal weddings and services had taken place there, including those of the Earl of Wessex and the blessing of the marriage of the then Prince of Wales. The event was public in the sense that it was broadcast and attended by invited guests under the full protocols of a royal wedding. The couple left the chapel and the grounds after the service in an open carriage procession. This is the documented public moment that formalised her entry into the British royal family under the titles then granted. The chapel remains open to visitors on scheduled days and continues its ordinary liturgical life. The pin marks the exact venue of the marriage rather than any later private residence.
