Sunday was usually the day to explore new places in Miami with the boys. Coconut Grove neighborhood was the pick of the day. We enjoy walking around this quaint/bohemian part of Miami. We started the visit at Peakcock park. My favorite park in the whole city. It sits on a small hill where you can look down to the baseball field with the ocean further back on the horizon. We had brunch at the Glass & Vine restaurant under an exuberant collection of oak trees. The vegetation is lush with deep green color. Reminds me of the dense tropical forest vegetation I grew up with back home. Love the scent and I could experience a glimpse of it when walking around this area. In particular, at the Barnacle Historic State Park, you have to pass through a mini forest with charming trees before reaching the oldest house in Miami-Dade County. Taking the boys through it was always fun. They would be on the lookout for geckos, birds, and other small animals. Nature at their fingertip hoping that the scent of the vegetation will stay with them as it had stayed with me. Once you got to the house, there is a long open green area that stretches all the to the ocean where you can see Key Biscayne bay. Love to reflect back on it. Moments like this made the whole weekend very special.
