First Independent Pro Baseball Game In Waterbury CT

The Waterbury Spirit was an independent professional baseball team which played in Municipal Stadium in Waterbury Connecticut from 1997-2000. The team started in the Northeast League, and its final two years (1999-2000) the Northeast League played as the Eastern division of the independent Northern League (which lasted from 1993-2010). Waterbury last saw professional baseball in 1986 when the stadium was the home field for the Waterbury Indians, an affiliate of the then-Cleveland Indians.
The Spirit's first official game was June 4, 1997 as the previous night the opening game got rained out before the 5th inning. Stan Hough was the team's manager from 1997 to 1998; and George Tsamis was the manager from 1999-2000. Photos include the team pennant, player signing an autograph for a fan, a 1998 baseball card of pitching coach/relief pitcher JJ "Loco" Munoz, an autographed team baseball (featuring Hough's autograph), the 1998 pocket schedule front cover, and more autographs from one of the team baseballs signed during one of the team's four seasons.
1997's season also saw the 1-inning return of known sports writer & author Pat Jordan. He wrote a book titled "A Nice Tuesday" which includes his memories from the night he pitched an inning for the Spirit at 56 years old: https://www.amazon.com/Nice-Tuesday-Pat-Jordan/dp/0803276257
