First Home Game For Pittsburgh Maulers In The United States Football League

The Pittsburgh Maulers played one season in the original United States Football League, with its first home game (3rd game of the season) on March 11, 1984. The sellout crowd saw the visiting Birmingham Stallions defeat the Maulers by a final score of 30-18. The attached photo is one of personally-owned memorabilia from the Maulers with the promotional flyer to encourage fans to buy tickets prior to the start of the season.
1983 Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier signed and played for the Maulers in 1984. After the team folded late that year, he signed and played for the 1985 Jacksonville Bulls team which played in the Spring/early Summer of 1985. He then joined the Houston Oilers in the NFL for the fall 1985 regular season.
The team played at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. The stadium was located just East of the current Acrisure Stadium (formerly PNC Park as well as Heinz Field).

The Maulers finished their lone season in the original USFL with a 3-15 regular season record, losing many games in the first half of the season by a touchdown or less.
