By 1892, Sun Yat-sen topped his medical class but could only practice in Portuguese-controlled Macau due to accreditation issues. Working at Kiang Wu Hospital from 10 a.m. to noon daily, and running his own Chong Sai Pharmacy at 80 Rua das Estalagens, entire villages would gather around the house where he operated on patients, peeking through windows in awe. His professor Cantlie even traveled from Hong Kong to assist in a high-risk surgery, writing: "His is a nature that draws men's regard towards him and makes them ready to serve him at the operating-table or on the battlefield."
