After spending time exploring Uji, I stopped by a small local shop for lunch and ordered a meal centered around the city’s most famous flavors. It felt like the perfect way to experience Uji beyond its historic sights, through the taste of its tea culture and local dishes.

I chose matcha soba and other Uji specialties, and the meal carried the gentle, earthy aroma of green tea in a way that felt both comforting and distinctly regional. The noodles had that subtle matcha bitterness that paired beautifully with the rest of the dish, turning a simple lunch into something memorable and very local.
