Old Man Gets Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt

After many years of wanting to learn martial arts - I finally decided to "get comfortable being uncomfortable" at the ripe old age of 35.
Fast forward many hours on the mat with more hours watching videos, to a clear Pacific Northwest Sunday in November for a seminar led by Professor Rylan Lizares at Universal Jiu Jitsu in Camas, Washington.
At the time I was not scheduled to test, but one of the participants needed a training partner to do his. To my surprise - I too was awarded my blue belt at the end of the ceremony.
My jiu jitsu journey continues to today and has left me with fantastic memories, maintained my fitness, and given me life long friends. It's taught me to be comfortable being uncomfortable and consistently reveals new insights that extend far beyond the mats and into my daily life.
