This event marks the second time I’ve had the pleasure of listening to Chairman Zheng speak. The first time was in Taipei, where I was deeply curious about how we could find our purpose in the AI era. Specifically, I wondered how we could redefine the relationship between humans and AI, and strategize our future from a human-centered perspective. When Generative AI first became popular, I constantly pondered my own path forward, seeking ways to improve not only myself but also those around me. With these questions in mind, I attended a book launch where I found the answer in the concept of "finding methodologies." AI, as it turns out, is merely a tool that accelerates problem-solving and execution.
Initially, I bought the book because of its title, expecting it to be about living a better life. However, it delved deeply into the author’s insights on "view and action." The most compelling chapter for me was on the economics of social enterprises. This resonated as I’m currently working on Metablox.co, a platform dedicated to preserving human memories (often referred to today as digital twins and immortality). I constantly contemplate how to create better business models for public welfare. Despite hearing and seeing a lot about social enterprises and B Corporations since 2017, actually implementing these concepts has proven challenging.
This event in Kaohsiung was unique due to the participation of two authors. I attended this book club with a question about "how to understand and appreciate art," and I brought my girlfriend along to explore the concept of life, as we are both 27 and approaching our first major life transition in three years. Despite still grappling with understanding others’ perspectives on art, I’ve come to believe that appreciating an artist’s work through the lens of their happiness is a way of understanding art. The joy derived from inviting friends to such events is also a form of artistic expression. Calling upon friends to join doesn’t guarantee their attendance, but when they do come, everyone’s happiness is a testament to the beauty of shared experiences.
Another insight I gained is that life’s allure lies in its uncertainties. While we may fear that our 30-year-old selves will not match our expectations, it is precisely this "not knowing" that makes life exciting and drives us to continually seek and face the unknown.
