From Okayama Station, I boarded another train and made my way to Kurashiki—a city famous for its beautifully preserved Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. Wandering through the district felt like stepping back in time. The canal area, lined with weeping willow trees and crisscrossed by picturesque stone bridges, exudes an old-world charm. Walking along the riverbanks, I admired rows of white-walled storehouses and merchant houses, their lattice windows and distinctive "namako" walls reflecting centuries of history. Many of these historical buildings now house trendy cafés, museums, and boutiques, blending the old with the new. The tranquil streets, the gentle flow of the canal, and the tasteful preservation make Kurashiki Bikan a truly enchanting highlight of my travels.
