After our day trip in northern Kyoto, we returned to the city, rested at the hotel, and later headed out in the evening to the Kamo River and Shijo Bridge for a slower, more reflective end to the day. Sitting by the river and walking through the area felt like stepping into the softer side of Kyoto, where locals and visitors gather to relax, watch the water, and enjoy the atmosphere of the old city at dusk. 

Evening Along Kamo River
The Kamo River runs through the heart of Kyoto and is a beloved place for walks, dining, and sunset views, with its riverbanks offering a welcome escape from the city’s bustle. In your photos, the broad riverside paths and the people resting along the embankments show exactly why this area is so popular for unwinding in the evening. The river also creates one of Kyoto’s classic cityscapes, where modern life and traditional architecture sit side by side.

Shijo Bridge Area
Shijo Bridge spans the Kamo River along Shijo-dori and connects the Shijo-Kawaramachi area with Gion, making it one of the key crossings in central Kyoto. From the bridge, the view opens toward lively streets, historic buildings, and the old-town atmosphere that makes Kyoto feel timeless. The photos capture that mix beautifully, especially the evening light on the river and the surrounding traditional streets and landmarks. 

Favorite Dinner
The meal of grilled saba with rice was a perfect ending to the day, especially since saba is one of your favorite dishes in Japan. The charred, savory fish, warm rice, and simple side dishes gave the evening a comforting, satisfying feel after a long day of travel. It was the kind of meal that matches Kyoto well: unpretentious, seasonal, and deeply memorable.
