While Metablox is mainly about preserving memories using blockchain technology, such as rooting to the IPFS system, in some countries the corresponding NFT - since it can be sold via online marketplaces like OpenSea or others, there are different rules when crossing international borders. What may be fine in the U.S. or Mexico may not necessarily be okay to do in other countries which are aligned such as Canada or Australia. 

Even though it only was a preliminary discussion based on research, I enjoyed learning more about the basic level of Canada's requirements for crypto and web3 assets such as NFTs. If assets are held, such as a POAP NFT to confirm attendance and no monetary value is assigned outright, then that is one thing. However, NFTs sold via crypto might be subject to Canadian taxes and/or regulatory scrutiny depending on the specific situation. This is interesting since these are not being sold as brand new crypto altcoin tokens, nor are they memecoins with the pure intent being to sell for profit.

The conversation asked if I was planning on creating or owning a decentralized exchange (DEX) and I said no. This is not what I was exploring, nor would I ever want to go through all of the regulatory hurdles (such as here: https://www.osc.ca/en/industry/registration-and-compliance/crypto-businesses ) let alone needing to go through specialized crypto exchange lawyers (like those here) who would have oversee all of the nuances. 

Many of the laws are not yet up to speed with all of the new technology such as owning plots of land in virtual world/metaverse platforms, IPFS content which doesn't have GPDR or equivalent content, decentralized blogging platforms which don't have some form of moderation, SocialFi platforms which permit the creation of creator coins & post tokens, and even decentralized social media platforms which don't have a centralized moderation or censorship element as part of its ecosystem. Learning about this was interesting due to needing to help an existing USA client possibly expand to Canada; and some Web3 methods are built into the business model. While not a memory like a wonderful vacation or visiting a well-known landmark, this definitely was memorable due to how much I learned in a short window of time. Much more to follow up on this in the future should the client decide to take that part of his business model outside of the USA.
