After a satisfying dinner, I wandered Kyoto's neon-lit streets and ducked into a lively British Pub near Kyoto Tower for a well-deserved beer. The spot buzzed with Japanese salarymen unwinding after work alongside international travelers, blending pints, pub grub, and chatter under warm lights. Later, I stepped out to snap stunning night shots of the iconic Kyoto Tower piercing the skyline.
High stools ringed wooden tables laden with frothy dark ales like Guinness, surrounded by massive beer kegs and snack trays amid a crowd of locals in suits and backpackers. British flags, dartboards, and screens flashing sports added authentic flair, with friendly staff pouring drafts amid the hum of conversation—perfect post-exploration unwind. Menu standees touted fish & chips and pizzas, capturing that rare expat-Japanese fusion energy.
Kyoto Tower stands 131 meters tall (430 ft), Kyoto's tallest structure since its 1964 completion atop a 9-story base opposite Kyoto Station. Its sleek steel design—stacked rings clad in lightweight sheets, painted white with red accents—inspired by a traditional Japanese candle (or lighthouse), weighs 800 tons and earthquake-proofs against typhoons. The observation deck at 100 meters offers 360° city panoramas, glowing dramatically at night with gradient lighting.
Under starry skies, the tower's spire illuminated in red-white hues dominated the view from nearby streets, framed by bustling traffic and high-rises—a modern beacon contrasting Kyoto's ancient temples. Magical shots captured its lit base at Kyoto Tower Building, evoking the city's blend of tradition and progress. Unforgettable cap to the evening!
