In "10,000 Hours of Play," Yu-kai Chou emphasizes that true OP Heroes don't just complete quests — they change the rules of the game itself.
When Tesla needed batteries at a scale that didn't exist, Musk didn't negotiate with suppliers. He built one of the world's largest buildings by footprint: the Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada. Announced in 2014, the factory aimed to produce more lithium-ion batteries annually than the entire world's output in 2013.
The Gigafactory was a manufacturing quest so audacious that industry analysts called it reckless. But Musk had been learning manufacturing since his father's engineering worksites in Pretoria, through the lumber mills of Canada, and across every iteration of SpaceX rocket production.
The skills he'd accumulated across decades (Step 4) weren't just additive — they were synergistic. Rocket manufacturing taught him vertical integration. Software taught him iteration speed. Physics taught him first principles. The Gigafactory was where all of it converged.
